2011 People’s Choice Design Awards Program

On the weekend of May 7th and 8th, 2011 during Medford’s Art in Bloom Celebration, the Southern Oregon AIA and the Crater Lake Section of the American Society of Landscape Architects exhibited forty separate building and landscape design projects to the general public in a gallery space on Middleford Alley in Medford. Festival attendees were encouraged to vote for their preferences among the exhibition in eight categories. In addition, a “Colleague’s Choice” voting was held in conjunction with the public voting to have the architects and landscape architects vote on the favorite projects of their peers.

This “People’s Choice Awards” program is the first time in our Southern Oregon Chapter’s history licensed design professionals have asked the general public for their appraisal of work in an exhibition. After the votes were tallied, awards for outstanding achievement were presented, on Friday, May 13, 2011 at a reception hosted by the Southern Oregon AIA. The People’s Choice Awards program is an element of the chapter’s larger public outreach program to foster greater general awareness of design excellence and the contribution of architects to the built environment. Below are the categories with projects that received award recognition.
