2012 People’s Choice Design Awards Program

On the weekend of May 12th and 13th during Medford’s Art-in-Bloom Celebration, the Southern Oregon AIA and the Crater Lake Section of the American Society of Landscape Architects exhibited twent-nine building and landscape design projects to the general public in a gallery space on Middleford Alley. Festival attendees were encouraged to vote for their preferences among the exhibition in nine categories. In addition, a “Colleague’s Choice” voting was held in conjunction with the public voting to allow the architects and landscape architects to vote on the favorite projects of their peers.

The 2012 “People’s Choice Design Awards” program was the second time our Southern Oregon Chapter’s design professionals have asked the public for their appraisal of our work in an exhibition. In addition the design awards program also included a “pre-show” reception on Friday night to allow special invitees to view the exhibit ahead of the weekend festivities open to the general public. As added special features to the show this year we were fortunate enough to display the presentation banners from ‘Oregon 100’, the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the AIA in Oregon. This exhibition explored the impact architects and architecture have had on the State of Oregon, its regions, and cities throughout the century. And to round out the exhibition, our chapter’s Design Excellence Committee assembled a multi-media presentation of the work being done locally and statewide to promote excellence in design.
